With dozens of workshops to choose from, we encourage you to explore the complete workshop offerings before beginning your Annual Event registration. Read the descriptions, meet the workshop leaders, and make note of your first—and perhaps second—choices for each workshop block. Registration will time out at ten minutes, so we recommend writing down your choices to avoid having to start over.

Before You Register

Browse the complete workshop offerings and identify your first choice for each workshop block. Because some workshops may have limited capacity, we also recommend having a second choice in mind. Keep the Workshop Worksheet nearby when you begin registration.

How the Workshop Blocks Work

Workshops are offered during five different blocks throughout Thursday and Friday. You may choose one workshop during each block, giving you the opportunity to participate in as many as five workshops during the Annual Event.

DE — Extended Workshop

Looking for a deeper dive? An Extended Workshop runs Friday from 1:45–5:00 PM and spans both the D and E workshop blocks. If you choose a DE Extended Workshop, it takes the place of separate D and E workshop selections.

Thursday Afternoon Conversations: Unique to Portland

This year at the APCE Annual Event, we are offering something unique to Portland to maximize the opportunity to learn more about Christian education and take home resources for your own context. On Thursday afternoon, you can select one of three hour-long conversations led by speakers on these topics:

Indigenous Christianity and Pedagogy

Explore theology through an Indigenous lens, engaging with Indigenous voices, storytelling, and artistry to consider the pedagogy of Christian education. Through observing how these perspectives speak to social, environmental, and spiritual justice, we will ponder the idea that “how we teach is what we teach.”

The Bible Project

Learn more about the Bible Project, a nonprofit organization based in Portland that creates resources to help people experience the Bible. We will explore the variety of resources and content available through the Bible Project, including videos, resource guides, and podcasts, and consider how to incorporate these resources into our Christian education contexts.

A.I. and Christian Education

Artificial intelligence has skyrocketed to the forefront of our communal conversation, but this rapid rise in its use has not allowed much space to consider the ethics and morality surrounding the use and existence of A.I. We will explore how to navigate A.I. theologically, its ethical implications and the questions that arise from its use, and inquire about the possibilities for using A.I. in Christian education.
