PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
FEEDING THE SPIRIT
This past February over 750 educators met in Albuquerque to rest, relax and re-new. The temperatures may have been
well below freezing, but the warmth of shared fellowship, worship and learning to “Walk in Balance” was quite evident!
We were led in our plenaries by Rick Ufford-Chase and we were fed in spirit by the many wonderful workshops. Be sure to check out
the APCE website for more information on a fabulous event.
So, what can you do if you missed the annual
event this year? There are two wonderful opportunities coming, and they are BOTH in our own backyard! You will find information
in this newsletter on both events-our fall GLACE conference and the APCE Annual Event in Grand Rapids in 2012.
So, why should you take the time and expense to attend these events if at all possible? We in educational ministry
tend to take care of everyone else's needs before our own. We research and order curriculum, train volunteers, plan mission
trips and retreats and see to the spiritual needs of those on our congregations.
But what do we do for ourselves to stay fresh and committed to what we do? I heard a great analogy not long ago.
Someone said that folks in ministry have the responsibility to see to their own needs, even before they see to the needs of those
they lead. This person likened it to being on an airplane when the cabin suddenly loses pressure. We are told at the beginning
of the flight that, in the event this happens, we are to secure the mask over our own face BEFORE helping those with which we are
traveling.
It's important for us to practice spiritual self-care. These events, sponsored
by GLAPCE and APCE offer wonderful opportunities to learn new things, share worship and fellowship with others and generally renew
the spirit. I know money is tight for everyone. You will also find information in this newsletter on scholar-ship opportunities
for both events. I hope you are able to take advantage of these terrific events!
