Welcome to the 2020s: Envisioning the Future of Faith Formation

Tuesday, February 5, 2019 from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Presenter: John Roberto

Registration Fee: $60.00

Minimum Number Required: 45 by December 7, 2018

We are on the doorstep of a new decade. So many of the trends and challenges we experience today were just emerging as this decade began: a ten-decade life span, the millennial generation starting families, baby boomers entering their “retirement” years, the younger generations leaving organized religion, multiple family structures and living arrangements, the diversity of ethnic cultures, the recognition of gender and sexual diversity, and more. The arrival of a new decade is a good time to create an “agenda” for the future of faith formation. Together we will explore seven areas for the future development of faith formation in congregations:

    • Developing a new ecology of Christian faith formation
    • Becoming intentionally intergenerational
    • Empowering and equipping parent and family faith
    • Designing 21st century faith forming experiences for each stage of life
    • Focusing on pathways of faith maturing across the life cycle
    • Personalizing faith formation for all ages
    • Embracing new faith formation leadership roles

Silent Retreat at Ruah Spirituality Center at Villa de Matel

Tuesday, February 5 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Led by Janet Troy of CCVI.

Registration Fee: $40 to cover lunch and transportation by commercial bus.

Minimum needed by Dec. 7 is 10, maximum is 30 people

Experience silence at Villa de Matel’s Ruah Spirituality Center. Ruah is located within Villa de Matel, the motherhouse of The Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word (CCVI), less than an hour from Galveston. Ruah’s spaces are set apart for silence. Silence is presented as nonnegotiable: it is offered as a gift and guarded as a treasure for those who seek. Here people are led to rest in God’s presence; then the same Breath of God (ruah) who drew them here sends them out to confidently echo the good news of God’s love on the streets of their lives. There are numerous prayer spaces within the center, a labyrinth on the grounds and trails for walking. The group will be oriented to the space and then will spend about 4 hours in silence, ending with a time of debriefing the experience led by a spiritual director. Lunch is provided and eaten in silence.
